North Mundham, West Sussex· Box and Stockbridge Hundred· 680 – 1920
South Mundham was part of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Pagham holding from King Caedwalla's grant to Bishop Wilfrid in 680. The mesne lordship was held by John the Marshal in Henry II's time, involving a dispute with Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1164.
The Jardyn family held from the early 13th century. Thomas Jardyn died before March 1411; the manor was taken into Crown wardship. John Jardyn died in 1426, leaving sisters Beatrice (wife of James Knottesford) and Margaret (wife of John Sopere) as heirs.
Through the Banaster, Uvedale, Brunyng, and Aylwin families, the manor passed to William Stamper (1649). In 1756 it was divided among eight coheiresses. The Duke of Norfolk is said to have acquired the manor.
