About
Governance
Sheldon Manors is a private heritage research initiative. It is not a registered charity, a government body, or a commercial enterprise. The platform is maintained and funded independently, with no advertising, no sponsorship, and no subscription fees.
Editorial Standards
All content published on this platform is held to the following standards:
- Source-based. Every factual claim traces back to a published source or primary document. The Victoria County History is the principal authority, supplemented by the Manorial Documents Register, Inquisitions Post Mortem, and county record office archives.
- Transparent about uncertainty. Where the evidence is ambiguous or incomplete, the text says so plainly. Gaps in the record are not filled with speculation.
- Neutral in presentation. The platform presents historical records as they appear in the sources. It does not make value judgements about historical figures, institutions, or events.
- Open to correction. Errors of fact, omission, or interpretation are corrected promptly when brought to our attention. Corrections are welcomed and credited.
Data Integrity
The database is structured to ensure that every piece of information can be traced back to its source. Each lord in a chain of descent, each tenurial obligation, each institutional connection has a source field. The sources table records full bibliographic details including volume, page numbers, and online availability where applicable.
Manor profiles are not published until the primary VCH entry has been read and the chain of descent extracted in full. Partial or unsourced entries do not appear on the public site.
Corrections and Contributions
Researchers, archivists, local historians, and anyone with relevant knowledge are encouraged to contact us with corrections, additional sources, or information about manors in the coverage area. All correspondence is acknowledged and substantive contributions are credited.
