North Mundham, West Sussex· Box and Stockbridge Hundred· 1426 – 1857
Bowley was held with South Mundham as a half-fee by the Jardyn family, splitting at the 1426 partition. Marmaduke Darrell held in 1546; Edward Darrell died at Bowley in 1573. Thomas Darrell and wife Bridget sold to William Smyth of Binderton in 1603.
William Smyth died in 1623 leaving infant granddaughter Mary. Mary and Sir John Morley dealt with the manor in 1641. Their daughter Mary married Sir John May; she owned in 1672 but died without issue in 1681.
Laurence Alcock purchased in 1690. Through his daughters Jane (wife of John Radcliffe) and Anne (wife of George Bramston), the manor passed to Nathaniel Newnham of Newtimber Place (1774). Emma Newnham owned in 1819. The manor was subsequently acquired by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners.
