Manor Profile
Westhampnett, West Sussex· Box and Stockbridge Hundred· 1225 – 1401
Woodcote was described as a member of Halnaker in Boxgrove. William de St John granted it to Geoffrey Peverel for life c.1225. John de St John mortgaged it to the Bonsignori of Siena in 1299.
Various fractional fees were held: in 1329 half a fee was held by Henry de Hamptonette and half by heirs of Walter de Hamptonette. In 1355 Geoffrey de Ledes held for life when Sir Luke de Poynings and Isabel received the St John estates share. In 1401 William Neel of Chichester was said to be seised of it.
The VCH states it descended with Halnaker, which was purchased by the Duke of Richmond in 1765.
No separate Domesday entry. Part of the Halnaker fees within the honour of Arundel.
