The king held four hides at Cosham at Domesday. Cosham was part of the royal manor of Wymering.
William de Cosham held land worth 60s. by serjeanty, providing one armed man for the defence of Portchester Castle in time of war. His son Peter de Cosham succeeded to the same tenure. Peter had several daughters. The two eldest divided the land between them.
Peter, son of Agnes (the eldest daughter), conveyed his portion to Henry Wade in 1269. Henry Wade's son John attempted replevy in 1288 and obtained licence to enfeoff Thomas de Sandford in 1303. John died in 1303.
William de Erlee died seised of land at Cosham in 1307, held of Portchester Castle. In 1321 John, son of William de Erlee, granted to Thomas de Sandford and Joan his wife. Thomas de Sandford died seised in 1327. His son Richard sold his share before his death in 1327 to Laurence de Pageham. Laurence still held in 1375.
John Wallop held lands in 1486 of Constantine Darrell.
By 1604 Cosham was in the hands of the Bruning family and merged into the descent of Wymering manor. Thomas Thistlethwayte was lord of the manor at the time of the VCH publication.
